Garth Michael McDermott: Hear Music

Wish You Well (Building The Bricks)

(Garth Michael McDermott)

"Upstairs a band was playing, the singer was singing something about going home..." - Bruce Springsteen

It's harder to leave here - the finest spirits wrapped in winter's clothes
Have all turned into lethal loyalists who never feel the wind that blows
Is it gonna be this year?  You know they say tomorrow only knows
Well here's looking at yesterday, and knowing when it's time to go

I got 50 city blocks as reminders
Every neighborhood's an empty shell
A long time ago we were good once
I just came home to wish you well

We put up the good fight with every dollar and every cent
And we banked on the intangibles, as long as we still made the rent
Recovered from last night -  part of last year's model that used to fit
And it was great seeing you anyway, even if we've changed a bit

I got 50 city blocks as reminders
Every neighborhood's an empty shell
A long time ago we were good once
I just came home to wish you well

Inside some apartment out in Brooklyn
As part of those tales you like to tell
A long time ago we were good once
I just came home to wish you well
